Assistant/Associate Professor and Director of LaHouse Resource Center

Appointment: Tenure track, 12 month fiscal position with a 30% Extension, 30% Administration (LaHouse), 40% Research split.

Description: Serve as the LSU AgCenter faculty Extension Housing Specialist and Director of LaHouse Resource Center. Responsible for developing and providing statewide leadership and regional support for extension educational outreach programs and applied research on the application of research for sustainable, high-performance housing and its benefits – resilience, health and efficiency, as the primary program objectives.

About the LSU Agricultural Center: The LSU AgCenter, is one of eight campuses within the broader LSU enterprise (LSU System). The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. The AgCenter is headquartered in Baton Rouge and has 12 "on campus" academic departments and five regions which are made up of 15 branch research stations and an extension office in each parish. For more information, visit the AgCenter’s web site at Administratively aligned with the AgCenter is the LSU A&M campus’s College of Agriculture which oversees the teaching function. Many AgCenter faculty hold joint appointments with the College of Agriculture, so coordination is important.

General Responsibilities:
Research program development: Conduct research to address current and emerging regional issues and needs with regard to sustainable housing and resilient construction; research collaborations with local and regional partners are encouraged.

Resource development and management: Seek external support for priority programs via networking and collaboration, development of grant and contract proposals, fee-based industry training programs, facility rentals, book sales, fund-raising of gifts and in-kind donations, and other systems for self-generating funds. Manage the implementation of grant and contract projects secured.

Sustainable Housing program development: Conduct program needs assessments and audience analyses; develop targeted educational program designs and delivery systems to address current and emerging issues and needs; develop curricula and audio/visual teaching aids, Extension publications and videos, website and social media, mass media releases, marketing materials and evaluation tools; facilitate program delivery, implementation and impact evaluations.

LaHouse Resource Center: Lead, develop and manage LaHouse operations, staff, budget, facilities, educational exhibits, marketing, outreach and industry training programs (see LaHouse Strategic Plan for descriptions of Purpose, Vision, Goals, Target Audiences, Strategies and Actions (

Field faculty support: Respond to field faculty requests for housing-related information and program development assistance. Provide materials and tools to facilitate inclusion of healthy, resilient, and efficient housing education in their programs.

Professional development: Attend relevant professional meetings; review literature; consult with building scientists, colleagues, housing agencies and industry professionals; collect information to build expertise and remain current with research findings, technologies and their applications.

Organizational support: Serve on committees and task teams as needed by the LSU AgCenter and Dept. of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. and experience in building science, engineering, architecture, systems technology, interior design, or related field. Demonstrated skill and effectiveness in collaboration, training and motivating diverse audiences, including professionals and general audiences. Effective oral and written communication skills. Education or experience in non-formal education, program development and management preferred.
