Position Description
Our aim is to recruit, support, and retain a scholar in a 9-month tenure track position focused on poultry nutrition. This poultry nutrition position is one of two new strategic poultry positions in the department that seek to meet critical needs in poultry research and education (see Poultry Health announcement: R112290). The ideal candidate will establish a research program in one or more areas of poultry nutrition that build upon departmental strengths. Among the areas of interest are the interactions of nutrition and animal well-being and health management, optimization of nutrition to minimize environmental impacts of production systems, gene-diet interactions, and production efficiency outcomes, approaches to predicting and determining nutrition requirements, and preventative nutrition to optimize the requirements across the lifespan for resilience and sustainability in poultry production.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an extramurally funded research program that is collaborative and nationally recognized. The incumbent will become an integral part of the undergraduate and graduate programs of Animal Sciences. Expertise in teaching nutrition courses would be favorable, and the successful candidate will be expected to train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. All faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas of the Land Grant Institution (Research, Teaching and Extension). Faculty members have a shared responsibility to support and sustain the CFAES Principles of Community, convey good citizenship, and interact collegially. Performance Objectives
- Develop and/or expand an independent research program in poultry nutrition including presenting research results at national and international meetings, securing extramural funding, and producing impactful publications.
- Advise graduate and mentor undergraduate students in research.
- Work collaboratively with university faculty and staff and the Ohio poultry industry to advance the land grant mission of the college and university.
- Contribute to the Department’s academic mission through the teaching of 1-2 undergraduate or graduate courses per year.
- Demonstrate an ability to cultivate learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds, and commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion within Animal Sciences and related professions.
- Serve the department, college, university, and professional communities through committee work and other appropriate responsibilities and activities.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
- Earned Ph.D. in animal sciences, poultry science, nutrition, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise conducting applied and/or basic research in poultry nutrition.
- Evidence of potential for excellence in research and/or teaching.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a willingness and ability to work closely with diverse groups of academic (e.g., students, staff, faculty) and industry audiences.
- Demonstrated interest in and/or experience with teaching, recruiting, mentoring, and advising diverse underserved students, including women, students of color, first generation, and non-traditional students.
Desired:
- Experience developing or working in interdisciplinary research teams.
- Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research and teaching efforts in poultry nutrition is desired.

Department/School Information
The Department of Animal Sciences is based on two campuses in Ohio: one in Columbus and the other in Wooster. There are 35 faculty and 85 staff that deliver the research, teaching, and Extension programs of the department. Approximately 530 undergraduate students and 45 graduate students are enrolled. Undergraduate students can choose from seven Animal Sciences minors and three major degree specializations including Animal Biosciences, Animal Industries, and Veterinary Technology. The Department offers a robust graduate program that awards MS and PhD degrees. The Department aims to increase the economic profitability of agricultural animals and the quality of their products through the departments priority areas that include: 1) Nutrition and the Microbiomes, 2) Growth and Development, 3) Health and Disease, and 4) Welfare and Human-Animal Interactions. Herds and flocks of major food-producing animals for experimental studies are maintained across both campuses and statewide. Excellent opportunities are available for collaboration with food, veterinary, medical, animal and plant scientists on the Wooster and Columbus campuses.
