POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through 03/31/2027. Continuation will be dependent on job performance, project requirement, and availability of funding)

Work Location: School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Description: The School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences is seeking a highly motivated researcher with experience in plant tissue culture and genetic transformation, plant genetic engineering, and molecular biology for a USDA-NIFA grant to improve the sustainability of rice farming. The position is focused on unraveling the molecular mechanisms and developing high-yielding breeding lines with improved tolerance to salinity, drought, and heat stresses in rice. Primary responsibilities of this position include designing experiments to select and validate the genomic targets or candidate genes to apply genome editing tools to improve abiotic stress tolerance in rice. Other responsibilities include the timely publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals, the presentation of research results in professional meetings, conferences, and workshops, and mentoring of graduate students.

Qualification Requirements: Ph. D. in Molecular Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, or a related field with a strong publication record, organizational, written, and oral communication skills, and ability to work in cooperation with other lab members. Experience in plant tissue culture, genetic transformation, and genome editing in any plant species is essential. However, candidates with experience in gene editing in rice will be highly preferred.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. Current benefits offered include retirement, multiple medical insurance options, supplemental insurances (dental, life, long-term disability, accident, vision, long-term care, etc.), Tax Saver Flexible Benefits Plan (saves tax dollars on some child care and medical expenses), university holidays (14 per year, typically includes a week off at Christmas), generous annual (vacation) and sick leave benefits, Employee Assistance Program, and possible educational leave and tuition exemption for coursework at campuses of the LSU System. Specific benefits depend on job category, percent of full-time, and length of employment.

Date Available: Upon completion of the interview process.

Application Deadline: September 30, 2024, or until a suitable candidate is found.

Application Procedure: Apply online at https://lsu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/LSU (or through Workday for internal applicants) by attaching files containing a letter of application, curriculum vita, official university transcripts, and three letters of reference.
