Position Description: The Sugarcane Genetics Laboratory of the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to conduct genetic studies to improve desirable agronomic traits in sugarcane. The researcher will use contemporary genomics and phenomics tools to identify markers associated with the trait(s) of interest and deploy them in genomics-assisted breeding including genomic selection. The incumbent will also be expected to work in the field, as needed, in collaboration with the sugarcane breeder/quantitative geneticist at the Sugar Research Station, St. Gabriel.
Qualification Requirements: The candidate must have a Ph. D. in Plant Breeding/Genetics, Plant Bioinformatics or other Plant Biology related fields. The applicant should have a demonstrated record of experience in gene mapping and expression analysis, marker-assisted selection, and/or next generation sequence data analysis. The incumbent should be able to work independently as well as in a team environment under laboratory as well as greenhouse/field conditions using high throughput genotyping and phenotyping systems. Candidates with experience in working with Python and R language will be given preference.
