The incumbent will provide leadership for the area of agronomy; develop, implement, and evaluate educational projects and programs in the area of agronomy; prepare agronomy educational materials including curriculums, training packages, presentations, visual aids, media releases, and magazine articles; and establish relationship with community leaders, industries, organizations and cooperatives. He/she also provides faculty-level leadership to the various Small Farms Programs in the south and northwest region of the state.

  • Through knowledge of agronomy.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Leadership and teamwork building skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to develop, implement, and evaluate multi-state and integrated research and Extension programs when these efforts enhance program and cost effectiveness.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a system for recruiting, training, involving, and assessing volunteer or paid staff where appropriate. Involve volunteers in developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and activities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional nights and weekends and must have demonstrated ability and willingness to travel statewide to meet clients including occasionally travel out of state for meetings and /or conferences.
  • The person in this position must be able to work in outdoor fields and farm conditions.

Qualifications

  • One year experience in increasing diversity in educational program delivery and participation and demonstrated familiarity with Extension and the land-grant university system.
  • Significant and demonstrated experience in the field of vegetable Production or IPM.
