Work Location: West Baton Rouge Parish Extension Office, 210 Turner Drive, Port Allen, LA 70767
Position Description: The 4-H Program Assistant will support the delivery and coordination of agricultural literacy initiatives within the West Baton Rouge Parish 4-H program. This includes assisting with Cloverbud programming, managing outdoor classrooms with agricultural projects (e.g., incubation and horticulture), and supporting summer camps and educational programs. In addition to these primary responsibilities, the 4-H Program Assistant may also provide general support to other Extension programs and staff as needed to ensure the success of parish-wide outreach and educational efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloverbud Programming Support
- Assist with monthly in-school meetings to engage young students in agricultural literacy.
- Help develop and deliver age-appropriate educational activities and materials.
- Support evaluation efforts to improve program quality.
Outdoor Classroom Assistance
- Help maintain and manage agricultural projects such as incubation and horticulture.
- Ensure outdoor classrooms are safe and conducive to learning.
- Coordinate with staff and local experts to enhance student experiences.
Program Support
- Assist in planning and implementing summer camps and other educational programs.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to deliver hands-on learning activities.
- Help prepare materials and resources for program delivery.
- Help distribute training materials and resources.
Data & Reporting
- Assist with distributing surveys, maintaining event logs, and organizing data.
- Help prepare reports to demonstrate program impact.
Volunteer Support
- Help recruit, train, and manage adult volunteers.
- Assist with volunteer screening and ensure compliance with risk management policies.
- Support volunteers in delivering educational content and activities.
Program Funding & Compliance
- Assist with managing program resources and ensuring financial policies are followed.
- Support adherence to LSU AgCenter policies, including affirmative action and program evaluation.
Qualification Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred in education, agriculture, youth development, or a related field.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience working with youth and volunteers is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Salary and Benefits: This is a part-time position (20 hours per week), paid hourly. Hourly rate will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position does not include retirement, health insurance, paid leave, or other benefits typically offered to full-time employees of the LSU AgCenter.
Conditions of Employment: A personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage are required (travel allowance provided). Occasional evening and weekend work is expected.
