My research focuses in two areas included in the 2016-2020 National Research Agenda: American Association for Agricultural Education. My primary research focuses on Research Priority Area 6: Vibrant, Resilient Communities. Within this priority area, my research projects design and test models for increasing civic engagement and social capital in local communities through the local food movement (farmers’ markets, community supported agriculture, direct-to-retail businesses). I also determine the effects technology use and communication methods have on citizen engagement in the local food movement. My second research focus deals with Research Priority Area 4: Meaningful, Engaged Learning in All Environments. My investigation within this priority area is to develop and assess various learning interventions and delivery technologies that increase higher order thinking through student writing.
